慣用語往往短小精悍，富於哲理，具有較高的概括性和表達性，眾多學者、語言學家和文字工作者對其推崇備至。慣用語無處不在，其形式和意義的約定俗成和文字的風趣幽默大大增強了語言的生命力和表現力。

1. butter up拍馬屁/stuck up臭屁
To butter someone up＝is
to be really nice to him so that you can ask him for something. or flatter with the intention of getting
something to.
butter up 就是為了得到好處而拍人馬屁。
flatter也是奉承的意思。
butter up的例句：

really nice to me one day. She offered to help me with my homework and
everything. It turns out , she was just buttering

stuck up高傲的,自大的,神氣活現的。＝conceited自負
stuck是stick的過去式，不過 stickup =搶劫；stuck-up =自大(full of oneself, huge ago)，自命不凡。

2. If it’s not one thing, it’s
another
一波未平一波又起！or 禍不單行！
When many different things are going wrong in a short period of time
people sometimes say "If it's not one thing, it's another!" This is to say
that if "one thing"
is not causing a problem, "another"
is.
當在短時間內許多事情紛紛出錯、狀況頻頻時，我們可以說If it's not one thing, it's another.，意思是如果這件事(one thing)沒有出錯造成問題，另一件事(another)也會有狀況發生，表示「狀況百出，錯誤連連」，令人措手不及，類似中文所說的一波未平一波又起。
If it's not one thing,
it's another" can also mean
that you are busy with too many things to do.
If it's not one thing, it's another也可以用在一時間有太多事情要做。
I've got to wash the dishes and do the laundry, and now I hear the baby

to get well的反義詞是fall ill意思是生病。
